Wingsuit BASE jumping over Rio de Janeiro's Christ the Redeemer | Condé Nast Traveller

11. 10. 2020

BASE jumping is just about the most dangerous hobby on the planet. The BASE-jumping death rate is preposterously high – one in sixty BASE-jumpers will die for their cause, leaping from clifftops and buildings (strictly speaking, Building, Antennae, Span – eg a bridge – and Earth) wearing no parachute, just a wingsuit. One particularly die-hard daredevil was the late Alexander Polli, who is the subject of jaw-dropping new film BASE, which features real-life BASE jumps over some of the most incredible landscapes in the world. GoPro footage documents Polli, flying only in a wingsuit, all over the world, from Norway to Brazil, giving a whole new perspective on iconic landmarks – and making for heartstopping and completely addictive viewing. Watch Alexander Polli and Carlos Briceno Schutte making an intrepid BASE jump over Rio de Janeiro – narrowly avoiding a smash-landing into Christ the Redeemer’s arm – for a sneak peek of the film. BASE is in UK Cinemas 27 October and available Worldwide on iTunes and On Demand from 6th
