With a route of 648 kilometres to come, many would have thought that the opening 27 kilometres may have been treated as somewhat of a warm up and an opportunity for teams to gauge the form of their competitors. Though this was not the case on the trails of Meerendal Wine Estate and the Tygerberg MTB Club as the protagonists in the Men's and CM.com categories went full gas from start to finish in pursuit of the Ciovita leader jerseys and early advantages ahead of the mammoth Stage 1 in Hermanus.
