Speedweek 2004 Speedsailing (480p SD)

23. 7. 2019

Back in 2004 I was driving around Tasmania and Victoria for a break from Sydney with just some camping gear and my wavesailing gear. I seemed to have timed my trip with a speedsailing event called Speedweek held at Sandy Point, Wilsons Promontory, Victoria. I had a sony handheld camcorder and I had bought from the USA a plastic tube thing that housed it so I could get some footage in the water. When I think now how cumbersome that thing was compared to GoPros and the like it's almost painful to think about it! To get the windsurf shots on this video I basically had to sail 1 handed everywhere and gybes were a challenge! We got lucky at Speedweek in 2004 because on one of the days the wind was blowing 40-50knots and we got to see Sandy Point at it's best.... I tried to get footage but it was really hard because the sand just blasted me on the course. The next day the wind was a more mellow 20 knots or something and that's when most of the footage was shot. My OES waveboard wasn't very quick on the course but I'll never forget how good it felt to sail on buttery smooth water... one of my favourite things to do when windsurfing.... Hope you enjoy this blast from the past... I think this was the 1st windsurfing video I ever made :)
